What's involved in having a Rapid HIV Test?

We use the 'INSTI HIV Antibody Test' which is made in Canada. A simple pin prick is made on your thumb to produce a small drop of blood which is then added to the kit to determine the presence of any HIV antibodies. The whole process is quick and painless and normally takes less than 2 minutes.

How long does the Rapid HIV Test take?

The process is very quick, it normally only takes a couple of minutes in total.

Will I get my result straight away?

For tests taken at our main Auckland testing location the result will be given straight away by the counsellor conducting the test.
If you are having a test at any of the other on-site testing locations then you will be given a code and a card so you can receive your result at one of our main locations the following week.

Is it confidential?

Yes, all information discussed when you are tested, including your details and your result, are completely confidential.

How much does it cost?

The test is free of charge to everyone.
